Samuel Adams Winter Lager

The flavors reminds me of the Boston Lager, but it has a spiciness from cinnamon, orange zest, and ginger.

The cinnamon and ginger give a mild spicy heat in the finish.

The mildness of the spices will be enjoyable by many compared to overly spiciness of many winter spice beers.

Guinness Foreign Extra

It has a dry mellow maltiness that finishes very dry. The flavor has a fuller body than the standard Guinness that everyone knows.

It pours with mild head that fades quickly. The carbonation gives it a little crispness, which is very nice with the dry finish.

At first, I didn’t enjoy this beer, but I think I really do like it. The dryness is what I like about it.

Smoky Mountain Brewery’s Porter

I stopped into the Smoky Mountain Brewery today after hiking to Laurel Falls and the old growth trees just past the falls.

I picked up the Porter, which had a little chocolate flavors in the initial taste. It had a little sweetness along with the chocolate flavors. The hop flavor was very nice and true to the style.

I had this as a growler, which may have added to the flavor.

Yellowhammer Brewery

I got a chance to try Yellowhammer’s IPA and Belgian White Ale beer today. Today was the initial release of their beers.

Both, are very nice. The IPA is the best with hop flavors that hold on to you to the end. The Belgian White Ale has spices that can surprise you, but I enjoyed it.

Here are the brewery’s descriptions:
Belgian White Ale – 4.8% ABV
Wheat ale brewed with fresh ginger and lime leaves.

American IPA – 6.8% ABV
Brewed with four select malts and a blend of Centennial, Columbus, Amarillo and Simcoe hops.

The beers are very good and I look forward Yellowhammer’s future beers.
The whole team was very proud of the beers today and I was glad I got to be a part of the release.

Blue Pants Brewery

Mike and Allison Spratley are Blue Pants Brewery. Blue Pants released their first beer today at The Nook in Huntsville, Alabama. It is called Knickerbocker Red in the style of a American Red Ale.

Knickerbocker Red presents with a sweet nose. There is a little woodiness in the nose as well. The initial taste has a sweetness. The hops are very mellow, but they arrive late in the taste and hold on to the finish. The finish is a little alkaline, too.

Blue Pants is the third brewery to open in Huntsville. Initially, Blue Pants will have limited distribution throughout Huntsville.

Bell’s 25th Anniversary Ale

Bell’s Brewery released their anniversary beer to celebrate 25 years of brewing. It is appropriately called Bell’s 25th Anniversary Ale. The style is an American Strong Ale.

The beer starts with a good maltiness at the noise. The carbonation provides a little bite to complement the alcohol taste that is very mild in the beer.

The body of the beer hangs on with the malt and doesn’t let go as the beer finishes.

I would say this a great showing for Bell’s 25th anniversary. Good show!

Rogue Ale’s Double Chocolate Stout

The first thing is the chocolate. It is screaming at you. It reminds you of Hershey’s Dark Chocolate Syrup.

On some mornings, I make caffe lattés with this syrup and the smell of chocolate when you squeeze the bottle to blow the air out with rich chocolate smells is just like this beer.

An alcohol taste is present, but it is a very good balance with chocolate flavors.

The body is full and filling the mouth with chocolate and maltiness.
